Julian Mantle, a world class lawyer, has a heart attack in the middle of courtroom seven in a fine Monday morning. The next day, John(Julian's assistant) hears news about Julian's condition recovering. But it's also revealed that the Harvard student is leaving the profession that he had occupied for 30 years. Three years later there is still no sign of the brilliant Julian Mantle. Last reports indicate that he has sold his mansion, plane, his private island and his prized Ferrari. Two months later, Julian Mantle reveals himself in John's office completely transformed. Gone was the ghost complexion and his morbid expression that had become his personal trademark. He then reveals he had met a monk in India named Yogi Krishnan who was previously a lawyer just like Julian. Yogi Krishnan gives him directions to the Sages of Sivana. These directions take him through the Himalayan mountains and into a secluded valley where he finds Yogi Raman and all the Sages of Sivana. While Julian describes the nature of the sages, John realizes how he has gotten limited as a adult after growing up in a childhood of adventure. Julian explains how he had learned self-mastery has a profound impact on one's life, family and spirit. John then leaves and locks up his office having heavy thoughts on the topic of self-mastery. The next day they meet in John's house where Julian reveals more about ancient technique of mind control and the technique of erasing the habit of worry. Julian Mantle recites the story of the Lighthouse and the Sumo wrestler just as Yogi Raman had to him. Mr.Mantle identifies that each element of the story has the seven virtues that are essential to enlightened life. Julian then recalls a schoolteacher named Malika Chand who had a great sense of optimism and had convinced a community in Kolkata, India to replace a 64 year school with a brand new one.
