The book started off with Julian fainting in a exciting courtroom argument. John (the main character) gets informed that his “boss” is retiring from law. The story goes forward 6 months and there is a guy knocking on John’s office door. It is then revealed that Julian has come back from a 6 month visit from the Himalayan mountain range and has met the “legendary” Sages of Sivana. According to John, Julian’s complexion had completely changed. He then reveals how the journey went and all of the difficulties related to the journey. This section or chunk of the book was particularly exciting because of all the action and adventure in this particular chunk. He then starts to reveal all the secrets Sages of Sivana. He first talks about Yogi Krishnan, a man he had learned about on his journey to find the Sages of Sivana. Once he had found the Sages of Sivana they started to reveal the secret of erasing the habit of worry which was my second favourite piece of advice. Mr.Mantle recites a story about the sumo wrestler and the lighthouse. This story, as Julian identifies, has all seven virtues essential for living a enlightened life. He then explains how every experience, good or bad, teaches you a lesson. John wants to achieve eternal happiness quickly so he asks for a method to do so. Julian then mentions all the techniques he had and will be suggesting will take at least 2 months to master. But he still explains that if you do what you desire you will achieve eternal happiness. Julian then mentions how the Sages stood in line to practice patience and discipline which puzzled and made me laugh. Next, he explains the science and philosophy behind Kraizen. Next, all the ancient techniques of Heart of Rose and Secret of the Lake are explained. These are all techniques used to wipe out the mental influences that plague the western world. He then explains all the rituals of radiant living of which the ritual of Abundant Knowledge was my favourite. Remembering his past self Julian gets emotional and cracks up. He asks John to not make the same mistakes as him and also tells him to pass on these secrets to people all around him. By the time John summarizes Julian’s journey Julian has left while leaving only an empty cup left behind.
