Yogi Raman is the leader of the Sages Of Sivana. This is the group that thrives by obeying the Ancient Rituals and Techniques developed by their previous ancestors. This man is the wisest of these particular group of sages. He was the mentor of Julian Mantle the first ever western visitor. He has two children(Sidusi and Anand). One of his children, Anand, has passed away 56 years ago. But this yogi can be sometimes seen dancing in the early morning sun.

Unfortunately, his parents and wife had passed away. Which had lead to him for more spiritual enlightenment. He is a very kind and well educated man(according to Julian).

He has a heart attack which leads him to sell all his belongings, retire from his job as a lawyer and vacation to the India and the Himalayan mountain range. This journey spiritually enlightens him. He then narrates this journey to his John(another character). Julian used to have a daughter who had passed away in a driving accident. As a result he and his wife got divorced(thinking it was his fault).

John is the another main character in the book. He used to work as a intern in the same firm as the "great" Julian Mantle. This firm has now accepted him as a full time worker. He plays as the character who listens to Julian narrating and asks him questions about the journey and about what he learns from the voyage. John has a daughter and a son. His daughter is a 7 year old and his son is studying in university(about 18). His wife is an accountant. His work at his office interferes with spending and bonding with his family.
